Illinois Supreme Court Decides that the Common Fund Doctrine Does NOT Apply to the Heath Care Services Lien Act
On March 24, 2011, in Wendling v. Southern Illinois Hospital, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned the 5th Circuit’s decision in Howell v. Dunaway and held that the common fund doctrine does not apply to liens created pursuant to the health care services act, allowing hospitals and providers to recover the entire amount due on their lien claims.

The FDA Warns of Increased Risk of oral birth defects in children born to mothers taking Topiramate (Topamax) for Seizure Disorders
New data suggest that the drug Topamax (topiramate) and its generic versions increase the risk for the birth defects cleft lip and cleft palate in babies born to women who use the medication during pregnancy, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on March 4, 2011.
